Keel of Oceania Sonata Laid at Fincantieri Shipyard in Marghera: A New Era in Luxury Cruising Begins

At the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, the keel for Oceania Sonata has been successfully laid, signifying a significant milestone in the ship’s construction. The keel laying ceremony highlighted the traditional importance of this step in shipbuilding and the collaboration between Oceania Cruises and Fincantieri.

Attending the ceremony were representatives from Oceania Cruises and its parent company, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, along with senior management from Fincantieri. Company officials emphasized that this achievement is a product of the concerted efforts of naval architects, engineers, designers, and shipyard craftsmen involved in the project.

The leadership of Oceania referred to the event as a confirmation of their strategy for fleet expansion and a continuation of their role in the cruise industry. Meanwhile, Fincantieri’s management noted that the design and construction of Oceania Sonata benefit from the expertise gained from previous projects, enhancing the standards of shipbuilding and outfitting.

Oceania Sonata is scheduled to make its inaugural voyage in August 2027, making it the ninth ship in Oceania’s fleet. Plans are also underway for three additional sister ships, including Oceania Arietta, expected to debut in 2029, with two more set for delivery in 2032 and 2035.

The new vessels will have an approximate volume of 86,000 GT tons and can accommodate up to 1,390 passengers, with a significant portion of the staterooms being in suite categories. Notable dining options on board will feature nine restaurants, including Nikkei Kitchen, which offers a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine, as well as La Table, a French restaurant.

This milestone in keel laying further aligns with Oceania’s construction timeline and delivery plans as part of their fleet expansion strategy.
