NCLH and Pacific Whale Foundation Join Forces to Enhance Keiki Whale Watch Program
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has partnered with the Pacific Whale Foundation to enhance the Keiki Whale Watch programme, a marine education initiative aimed at primary and middle school students in Maui County. This collaboration aligns with NCLH’s broader Sail & Sustain environmental stewardship strategy, which emphasizes ocean protection, community involvement, and educational outreach.
The new arrangement is set to increase the number of students taking part in this educational experience to over 2,200 in 2026, with nearly half receiving full sponsorship. The Keiki Whale Watch programme combines classroom learning with guided excursions to observe humpback whales in their natural habitat. This unique approach offers students a comprehensive marine science curriculum.
Additionally, the partnership will support the Pacific Whale Foundation’s annual World Whale Day Parade, an event that promotes marine conservation and celebrates the humpback whale migration season. This engagement by NCLH encourages community interaction and awareness, extending their conservation efforts beyond their cruise ships.
Enhancements to the cruise experience on the Pride of America will also tie into the parade, featuring educational talks from the ship’s Hawaiian ambassador, enriching passengers’ understanding of the local marine ecosystem and conservation efforts.
This collaboration showcases the impactful relationship between a major cruise line and a marine education organization, focusing on sustainability and community engagement while fostering marine wildlife awareness among young residents in crucial Pacific cruising areas.
