Royal Caribbean Ship Faces Delays Following Power Outage at Los Angeles Port
Guests embarking on the Quantum of the Seas for a 6-night cruise to Baja Mexico faced a delay on February 18, 2026, due to a power outage at the Port of Los Angeles. The outage, which was attributed to heavy rain and strong winds that brought down nearby power lines, led to Royal Caribbean notifying guests about the delays in the boarding process through text messages.
Initially, boarding was set to begin between 11 a.m. and noon, but was pushed to 1 p.m. Guests were advised to adjust their arrival times accordingly. Although the delay was relatively short, it still affected the embarkation flow, with guests expressing their experiences on social media. One passenger mentioned that customs processing moved slower than usual because the facial recognition systems, although powered, weren’t operational due to network issues, forcing staff to revert to manual passport checks.
Reports further indicated that traffic delays were compounded by the closure of a busy stretch of the I-110 freeway linking to the port because of downed power lines, although it was unclear if those lines specifically fed electricity to the port itself. Fortunately, Quantum of the Seas was the only cruise ship scheduled at the port that day, so no other vessels experienced similar disruptions.
The ship’s planned itinerary remained intact despite the initial delays. The Quantum of the Seas was on course for an overnight stop in Cabo San Lucas and a visit to Ensenada. Although no changes to the itinerary had been confirmed at that time, adjustments might be required if the delay impacted the ship’s overall timing.
For real-time updates on such situations or specific itineraries, guests are encouraged to stay in touch with onboard communications, which typically provide the latest information on any modifications to schedules.
