City-Parish and American Cruise Lines Forge $2 Million Agreement for City Dock Upgrade
American Cruise Lines has solidified its commitment to Baton Rouge, securing a 20-year agreement that will ensure approximately 100 dockings annually. Under this agreement, the cruise line plans to invest $2 million in upgrades to the City Dock, alongside monthly maintenance fees.
Mayor-President Sid Edwards emphasized the significance of this partnership, highlighting its potential to stimulate the economy, enhance tourism, and create job opportunities. With this collaboration, American Cruise Lines aims to not only maintain its regular stops in Baton Rouge but also enhance the docking facilities.
This year, the five ships of American Cruise Lines are projected to deliver around 16,320 passengers to Baton Rouge, who are expected to contribute roughly $1.2 million to local businesses and attractions. These passengers tend to be affluent retirees, with an average age of 72, spending approximately $128 at each shore excursion.
Visit Baton Rouge’s president, Jill Kidder, noted that the favorable experiences these guests have would likely encourage repeat visits to the area. The upgrades to the City Dock and the anticipated influx of visitors signify a positive step toward boosting local tourism and economy.
