Ports of Stockholm Gears Up for a Record-Breaking Cruise Season in 2026
Ports of Stockholm is gearing up for a historic cruise season in 2026, anticipating around 157 cruise calls that are expected to bring in more than 300,000 visitors to the Swedish capital and its harbor areas throughout the year. This marks a notable increase in cruise activity compared to recent years, continuing the upward trend in the Baltic Sea region.
Unlike previous years where cruise arrivals were concentrated in the summer, the scheduled calls indicate that ships will be visiting Stockholm year-round. A significant number of these visitors are expected to hail from Germany, which remains a key source market for cruise tourism in the area.
Among the expected vessels are seven ships making their inaugural stops at Stockholm, including the luxury and expedition vessels such as National Geographic Endurance, Scenic Eclipse II, and Seven Seas Grandeur. Also on the list are more mainstream options like Carnival Legend and Mein Schiff Relax. Notably, the luxury cruise line Explora Journeys will be making its first overnight visit with Explora III in August.
In addition to the primary Stockholm port, Port of Nynäshamn will also see increased activity, forecasting at least 21 ship visits this upcoming season. AIDA Cruises is expected to be the dominant operator, planning approximately 32 calls over the summer and autumn.
To accommodate this growth in maritime tourism, cruise operators and port authorities have committed to enhancing sustainability infrastructure. New shore power connections will be installed to allow visiting ships to connect to local electrical grids while docked, reducing emissions and noise. This effort aligns with Stockholm’s broader environmental objectives.
