A fire broke out early on February 20, 2026, aboard the Liberia-flagged vessel World Legacy while en route to Singapore, which has raised alarm for the newly launched service of Singapore-based World Cruises. The fire, which originated in a lounge area on Deck 9, was controlled by the crew before Singapore Civil Defence Force marine firefighting teams arrived to completely extinguish it.
At the time of the incident, there were 271 passengers and 388 crew members onboard. Unfortunately, one crew member, an Indonesian national, later died from injuries sustained in the fire and was transported to shore. Four passengers were taken to a hospital for evaluation, but there were no further serious injuries reported.
Following the fire’s containment, all passengers were evacuated to the HarbourFront Ferry Terminal, while a core team stayed aboard the ship anchored in Raffles Reserved Anchorage to manage essential operations, assist ongoing investigations, and conduct safety checks. The remaining crew was disembarked in stages.
Authorities established a safety perimeter around the ship and issued warnings to nearby vessels. Surveyors from the classification society engaged by the ship’s owners are expected to assess the damage and outline repair plans before the ship can return to service. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with the appropriate diplomatic and maritime authorities informed.
