Ports of Stockholm Gears Up for an Unprecedented Cruise Season in 2026
Ports of Stockholm is gearing up for a record-breaking cruise season in 2026, with expectations to welcome around 157 cruise vessels and over 300,000 visitors throughout the year. This surge in visitor traffic marks a significant increase compared to previous years and highlights the rising popularity of cruise trips in the Baltic Sea region.
Unlike past seasons, where cruise ship arrivals were concentrated in the summer, the schedule for 2026 shows a steady stream of visits year-round, reflecting a growing interest in northern European cruise itineraries. A majority of these passengers are projected to come from Germany, one of the largest markets for cruise tourism.
Among the ships making their first appearances in Stockholm are several luxury and expedition vessels, including the National Geographic Endurance, Scenic Eclipse II, Seven Seas Grandeur, as well as mainstream options like Carnival Legend and Mein Schiff Relax. Additionally, Explora Journeys will launch its brand with an overnight visit from the ship Explora III in August 2026.
The Port of Nynäshamn, another key terminal in Stockholm’s cruise network, is anticipated to see heightened activity, with 21 scheduled ship visits—its highest in several years. AIDA Cruises is expected to lead the way with approximately 32 calls planned for the upcoming season.
In addition to the influx of cruise traffic, port authorities emphasize their commitment to sustainability. Investments in new shore power infrastructure will enable docked ships to access electrical power from the grid, reducing emissions and contributing to Stockholm’s overall environmental objectives.
