Tragedy Strikes: Crew Member Dies in Fire Aboard World Legacy Near Singapore
A tragic incident occurred aboard the Liberia-flagged vessel World Legacy in the early hours of February 20, 2026, while it was en route to Singapore. The fire, originating in a lounge area on Deck 9, was initially managed by the crew before external firefighting teams from the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived to fully extinguish it.
At the time of the fire, the ship carried 271 passengers and 388 crew members. Unfortunately, one crew member, an Indonesian national, later died as a result of the incident. Additionally, four passengers required medical attention and were transported to a hospital for evaluation; however, no further serious injuries were reported among those on board.
Following the fire, all passengers were safely evacuated to the HarbourFront Ferry Terminal. A skeletal crew remained on the ship to maintain operations and assist with investigations. The remaining crew members were disembarked gradually. Authorities established a safety perimeter around the ship and issued warnings to other vessels in the area.
Surveyors from the ship’s classification society were expected to assess the damage and facilitate repairs before the World Legacy could return to service. Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire is under investigation, with appropriate diplomatic and maritime authorities informed.
