Carnival Celebration Heroically Aids Distressed Small Boat During Cozumel Voyage

During a February 16th voyage to Cozumel, Mexico, the Carnival Celebration cruise ship encountered a small boat in distress while at sea. The ship, operated by Carnival Cruise Line, altered its course to assist the stranded individuals. In line with maritime protocols, the crew successfully rescued five people from the compromised vessel, which was noted to be taking on water and appeared makeshift.

Carnival Cruise Line coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard during the rescue, but details regarding the rescued individuals and the specific circumstances that led to their distress were not made public.

The Carnival Celebration had set sail from Miami on February 15th for a week-long journey that included stops at Roatan Island in Honduras and Celebration Key, Carnival’s private island in the Bahamas, before returning to Miami on February 22nd.

This rescue operation highlights the international obligations outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which mandates that ship captains must aid individuals in peril at sea, provided that such intervention does not endanger their vessel, crew, or passengers.
