Costa Serena Returns to Europe in 2027 After 11 Years in Asia: A New Chapter for the Iconic Ship
The Italian cruise ship Costa Serena is set to return to European waters in 2027 after spending over a decade in Asia. The ship’s new operational program will weave together itineraries in the Mediterranean and South America, marking her first significant season back in Europe since 2016.
In late April 2027, Costa Serena will make a transatlantic journey to arrive at Costa’s Palacrociere Cruise Terminal in Savona, Italy. There, she will kick off summer voyages throughout Southern Europe. The initial itinerary includes a 12-night cruise through the Western Mediterranean, visiting ports in Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco, and Italy. Following that, another 14-night cruise will take her to the Eastern Mediterranean, exploring areas around Southern Europe and the Greek archipelago, including Malta, before returning to Savona.
These longer voyages are complemented by a series of shorter seven-night cruises from both Italian and Maltese ports, featuring destinations like Mykonos and Argostoli. The summer schedule will differ slightly from that of the Costa Fascinosa, the ship she is replacing. In autumn, Costa Serena will revert to western routes, offering various brief coastal trips between Italy, Spain, and France.
Prior to her arrival in the Mediterranean, Costa Serena is destined for a winter season in South America, running from December 2026 to April 2027. This follows a circumnavigational cruise departing from Tokyo late December 2026. The South American itineraries will comprise mainly 8-10 day voyages along the Atlantic coasts of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, departing from ports such as Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Montevideo.
Costa Serena has been an essential part of Costa Cruises’ fleet since her launch in 2007, operating year-round in Asia from 2015 to 2026, based in China, Taiwan, and Japan.
