Carnival Celebration Ship Rescues Distressed Small Boat on Journey to Cozumel

During a recent cruise in the Western Caribbean, the Carnival Celebration, operated by Carnival Cruise Line, responded to a maritime emergency by rescuing individuals from a small, distressed boat on February 16, 2026. As the ship made its way to Cozumel, Mexico, crew members noticed the small vessel in international waters and promptly modified their course to conduct a rescue operation.

The crew was able to bring five individuals aboard the cruise ship and coordinated their efforts with the U.S. Coast Guard, who provided guidance throughout the rescue process. Specific details about the rescued individuals or the circumstances that led to their distress were not released, but eyewitnesses noted that the boat appeared makeshift and was taking on water when the rescue occurred.

The Carnival Celebration had departed from Miami on February 15 for a seven-day itinerary, which included stops at Roatan Island in Honduras and Carnival’s private destination in the Bahamas, Celebration Key, before concluding back in Miami on February 22.

This rescue operation aligns with international maritime law obligations, which require shipmasters to assist those in peril at sea, provided that the rescue does not endanger the rescuing vessel, its crew, or passengers.
