On March 1, 2026, TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 4 found itself in a precarious situation while docked in Port Zayed, Abu Dhabi, amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The conflict escalated significantly on February 28, following joint military actions by the US and Israel that led to the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
As the cruise ship remained in the area for safety, two Iranian missile-armed drones unexpectedly crashed near the vessel, hitting a shipping warehouse connected to the Al Salam naval base. The resulting explosions sent shock waves through the ship, with guests reporting hearing a loud bang as thick, black smoke billowed into the air.
In response to the alarming situation, the crew onboard implemented emergency protocols. Passengers were directed to assemble in the ship’s theater, advised to stay away from windows and outer decks. A passenger recounted receiving an emergency alert around 4:30 p.m., leading to heightened concern among the guests. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the ship itself sustained no damage.
