Passengers on the Regal Princess cruise ship experienced an unexpected yet heroic event during their voyage from Galveston, Texas, to Cozumel, Mexico. On February 23, while traveling through the Gulf, the crew detected a small distressed boat with four individuals aboard. The ship immediately altered its course to conduct a rescue, prompting cheers from the passengers.
The cruise line confirmed that the Regal Princess responded swiftly to the distress call, bringing the individuals onboard for evaluation by the ship’s medical team. The ship proceeded with its journey while ensuring the safety and well-being of the rescued individuals remained a top priority.
Social media posts shared by passengers showed the men in a rusted boat, appearing to take on water amidst strong gusts. One passenger, Melody Almogabar Barr, remarked that the ship’s change of course made it clear something was amiss. When the captain announced the successful rescue, the atmosphere shifted as passengers expressed their gratitude with applause in a packed theater.

This rescue was particularly timely, following another similar incident only days earlier when a Carnival cruise ship also provided assistance to individuals in another small boat in distress. The U.S. Coast Guard was informed during these operations to ensure safety and support for all involved. The Regal Princess had set out on a seven-day Caribbean itinerary, scheduled to return to Galveston on March 1.
