Disney Cruise Line Celebrates the Christening of Its Newest Vessel: Disney Adventure
DCL-Disney Cruise Line has officially named its latest ship, Disney Adventure, during a ceremony held in Singapore, which will serve as the ship’s homeport. This momentous occasion marks the introduction of the largest vessel in DCL’s fleet, and the first to be based in Southeast Asia.
The christening ceremony took place in the Walt Disney Theatre aboard the ship, featuring a lively production that combined live musical performances with impressive visual effects. Notable musicians, including regional vocalists and the line’s beloved characters like Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse, enhanced the festivities. A 23-piece orchestra provided musical direction, culminating in performances by Hollywood Hall of Fame inductee Jed Madela and international recording artist Dami Im, showcasing an array of songs from Disney, Pixar, and Marvel.
Actor Robert Downey Jr. was the ship’s godparent and expressed his honor in taking on this role, sharing insights he gained from working with the Walt Disney Imagineering team during the ship’s development. He noted that the name "Adventure" was a fitting tribute to the ship’s scope and mission, officially completing the naming ceremony.
The event concluded with a traditional performance of "Let’s Set Sail," signifying the commencement of the ship’s service. Disney Adventure stands as the eighth vessel in the Disney fleet and is notable for being the first to exceed 200,000 gross tons. The ship is slated to embark on its maiden journey on March 10, offering 3- and 4-night cruises that will depart from Singapore.
