Ocean Scientists Set to Join Ponant’s Groundbreaking Antarctica Expedition in 2027

Ponant Explorations is set to host an exciting expedition to Antarctica in 2027, titled “Antarctica: Ocean (Re)Imagined.” This unique voyage will take place aboard the Le Lyrial and will feature ocean scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), a premier independent ocean science organization.

Departing from Ushuaia, Argentina, on December 7, 2027, the expedition will last for 10 nights, supplemented by a pre-night stay in Buenos Aires on December 6, totaling 11 nights of immersive exploration.

With over 35 years of expertise, Ponant aims to offer guests authentic experiences, including opportunities to learn from leading marine scientists directly.

Guests aboard this expedition will participate in daily discussions led by experts in various fields, including marine biology and glaciology, with specific speakers yet to be disclosed. The journey will also include guided excursions and Zodiac landings, allowing travelers to witness the majestic icebergs, vibrant penguin colonies, and breathtaking Antarctic landscapes.

Alongside these explorations, participants will engage in learning about methodologies of fieldwork, data collection techniques, and the broader global implications of polar research. Sam Harp, VP for advancement and CMO at WHOI, noted the importance of this partnership with Ponant as a unique opportunity to immerse people in the dynamic world of polar science.

The expedition is part of a three-year collaboration between Ponant Explorations Group and WHOI, aimed at elevating ocean research and education. Pricing for the voyage begins at $15,060 for a Superior Stateroom based on double occupancy. This cost includes the pre-voyage stay in Buenos Aires, group charter flight, and transfers on embarkation and disembarkation days.
