AmaWaterways Launches Exciting “City Escapes” River Cruise Program in Europe
AmaWaterways has unveiled a new series of river cruises in Europe named "City Escapes," aimed at enhancing the travel experience through longer stays in key cities along the Seine, Rhine, and Danube rivers. Set to launch in 2026, this program targets quieter travel periods, thereby allowing passengers to immerse themselves in local cultures without the hustle of a standard itinerary.
The City Escapes program emphasizes leisurely exploration, offering at least 24-hour stops in iconic cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Strasbourg, and Budapest.
Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, noted that the itineraries were designed for travelers looking for a more thoughtful approach to experiencing European destinations. The goal is to provide guests with ample time to delve into local museums, culinary experiences, and historical areas.
The Seine itineraries feature extended stays in Paris alongside stops in Rouen and Normandy. Passengers can explore historic neighborhoods like the Île de la Cité and participate in excursions to the D-Day Landing Beaches or local châteaux. Culinary demonstrations onboard will celebrate French dessert traditions.
For the Rhine, the cruises highlight cultural destinations such as Breisach, Heidelberg, and Cologne, offering experiences like tours of the Alsace wine region and scenic sailing through the Rhine Gorge.
On the Danube, the program encourages exploration across cities such as Budapest, Bratislava, and Vienna, with various excursions including hikes, culinary tastings, and cultural performances.
Moreover, AmaWaterways has expanded its land packages to include pre- and post-cruise options in London and Rome, featuring guided tours of landmarks like Vatican City and Westminster.
To celebrate the launch of the City Escapes program, AmaWaterways is offering promotional discounts for select departures until June 30, 2026, including fare reductions, cabin upgrades, and onboard credits.
