Norovirus Outbreak Hits Star Princess During Caribbean Voyage: What You Need to Know
An outbreak of gastrointestinal illness has been confirmed aboard the Star Princess during a Caribbean cruise operated by Princess Cruises. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 153 individuals exhibited symptoms consistent with norovirus infection, which affected 104 of the 4,307 passengers and 49 crew members. Symptoms primarily included vomiting and diarrhea.
The Star Princess was on a 7-day itinerary when the outbreak occurred, concluding its voyage at Port Everglades on March 14th, after departing on March 7th. In response to the outbreak, Princess Cruises indicated that only a limited number of guests experienced mild gastrointestinal illness. The cruise line has implemented enhanced sanitation measures, which included thorough disinfection of public areas and additional hygiene protocols throughout the sailing. Passengers with symptoms were isolated to prevent further transmission of the illness on board.
