Cruise Lines Reaffirm Long-Term Commitment to Arabian Gulf Amid Short-Term Adjustments

Despite recent changes in deployment impacting the winter 2026-2027 season, major cruise operators remain optimistic about the Arabian Gulf as a long-term winter destination. Several itineraries are already available for booking for the 2027-2028 season.

Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises have decided to withdraw from the region during the 2026-2027 winter, citing precautionary operational adjustments during an uncertain regional climate. Their vessels will be redirected to other areas, especially focusing on European and Atlantic itineraries. This move aims to provide more certainty for travelers and business partners.

Although there may be fewer ships in the upcoming season, the strategic importance of the Arabian Gulf in the global cruise market remains clear. Bookings are already open for the next winter season with Dubai and Abu Dhabi continuing to serve as key homeports.

AIDA Cruises plans to return with the AIDAperla, which will operate several itineraries in the Arabian Gulf during the 2027-2028 winter, including 7-night voyages from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, along with extended sailings to Oman. Similarly, MSC Cruises is set to maintain its presence, with the MSC World Europa scheduled for weekly 7-night sailings throughout the Gulf.

In the luxury market, Explora Journeys is offering reservations for voyages aboard Explora I, which include trips departing from Dubai to various destinations across the Gulf and Oman. Celestyal Cruises will also provide its “Desert Days” program featuring roundtrip sailings from regional ports.

Further into the 2027-2028 season, other cruise lines such as Silversea Cruises, Crystal Cruises, and Oceania Cruises have outlined itineraries that include departures from Dubai, linking the Gulf with destinations in the Mediterranean, Africa, and the Indian Ocean.

Over the past decade, the Arabian Gulf has transformed into a significant seasonal market for the cruise industry, bolstered by the modern infrastructure of ports like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. The typical winter cruise season spans from November to April, allowing for seamless movement of cruise vessels between Europe and Asia.
