Cruise Lines Reaffirm Long-Term Commitment to the Arabian Gulf Amid Short-Term Adaptations
Despite recent changes in deployment affecting the winter 2026-2027 season, major cruise operators are showing long-term confidence in the Arabian Gulf as a winter destination. Several itineraries for the 2027-2028 season are already available for booking.
Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises have opted to withdraw from the region during the upcoming winter season, citing precautionary measures. Their vessels will be redeployed to European and Atlantic itineraries in order to provide a more stable operational framework in light of the current unpredictable conditions in the area.
Although certain brands will see a reduced fleet presence this season, many cruise lines have already begun planning for future deployments, highlighting the Arabian Gulf’s significance in the global cruise landscape. Both Dubai and Abu Dhabi remain key homeports for future voyages.
AIDA Cruises intends to return with AIDAperla set for a series of itineraries during the winter 2027-2028 season. These trips will include 7-night sailings from both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as well as longer routes that feature stops in Oman, and bookings are available from December through early spring.
MSC Cruises will also continue its presence in the region, with the MSC World Europa planned to operate weekly 7-night itineraries connecting various ports within the Gulf, including one in the UAE and neighboring countries.
From the luxury segment, Explora Journeys has initiated reservations for voyages on the Explora I, featuring itineraries that depart from Dubai and explore destinations throughout the Gulf and Oman. Additionally, Celestyal Cruises has opened bookings for its “Desert Days” program, offering roundtrip sailings from regional ports on the Celestyal Journey.
Looking further ahead, Silversea Cruises will feature departures from Dubai on the Silver Shadow, while Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Symphony and Oceania Cruises’ Vista will also have itineraries linking the Gulf to regions such as the Mediterranean, Africa, and the Indian Ocean in early 2028.
The Arabian Gulf has evolved into a significant seasonal market for the cruise industry over the past decade, facilitated by the modern infrastructure in ports such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. The winter cruise season in the region typically runs from November through April, providing vessels with an alternative deployment option while transitioning between Europe and Asia.
