Royal Caribbean Cancels Over 20 Summer 2027 Cruises for Freedom of the Seas
Royal Caribbean International (RCI) has announced the cancellation of over 20 planned summer 2027 cruises aboard the Freedom of the Seas. The cancellations affect a variety of Caribbean itineraries that were set to take place between May and September of that year.
Passengers who had booked these voyages have been notified via email about the cancellations. RCI stated that the changes stem from ongoing assessments of deployment and itinerary planning, which involve regularly reevaluating the assignments of ships based on operational needs and demand. In light of this, the Freedom of the Seas is being repositioned to Southampton for the 2027 season. Affected guests and travel partners will be contacted regarding their reservations and potential alternatives.
The canceled itineraries included several Caribbean options, ranging from 9-night cruises to Aruba and Curaçao, to shorter 4-night journeys to the Bahamas and CocoCay.
To mitigate the impact of these cancellations on travelers, RCI is providing several alternatives. Passengers may automatically be reassigned to a 4-night sailing departing from Miami on the Wonder of the Seas, or they can choose from shorter voyages aboard the Adventure of the Seas or Jewel of the Seas. If these options are not suitable, travelers can request a full refund of their cruise fares, including any prepaid services linked to their original bookings.
This decision by RCI follows a separate announcement from Carnival Cruise Line, which recently canceled 11 sailings of Carnival Firenze scheduled for autumn 2026. Similar to RCI, Carnival emphasized the ability for affected passengers to either rebook or receive full refunds.
Such cancellations and adjustments in the cruise industry are not unusual, as companies often reassess their deployment strategies according to market demands, port constraints, and fleet repositioning. In this instance, the extensive cancellation of summer programs involving the Freedom of the Seas impacts thousands of travelers who had planned their cruises well in advance.
