Carnival Splendor’s New Zealand Cruise Canceled Due to Full Ship Charter Arrangement
Carnival Cruise Line has canceled a planned 10-night voyage on the Carnival Splendor due to a full-ship charter arrangement. The cruise, initially scheduled to depart from Sydney on October 12th, 2027, aimed to offer passengers a round-trip experience along New Zealand’s North Island.
Guests who had reserved spots for this voyage were informed that it would no longer take place as a public sailing. The cruise line clarified that the ship had been chartered, which led to the cancellation of the scheduled itinerary. While the specific entity responsible for chartering the vessel remains undisclosed, it is known that the cruise will proceed privately and not as part of the standard cruise line schedule. Consequently, ports of call—including Napier, Tauranga, Auckland, and the Bay of Islands—will no longer be accessible for individual travelers booking the cruise.
To accommodate affected passengers, Carnival has provided several options. Guests can transfer their bookings to a different voyage while preserving their original fare for comparable accommodations. Those who opt to reschedule will also receive onboard credit of approximately $100 per stateroom on the new sailing. Alternatively, travelers may choose to decline a new booking and receive a full refund, which will cover both the cruise fare and any pre-purchased services.
The canceled itinerary was a relatively unique offering within the cruise line’s programming, as voyages to New Zealand are less frequent compared to other South Pacific destinations. The 10-night cruise was particularly appealing due to its extensive itinerary compared to the shorter cruises usually available from Sydney.
For some travelers hoping to explore New Zealand, options may include sailing on other Australia-based ships, such as the Carnival Adventure, which is set to operate specific departures from New Zealand ports in 2027. However, finding an equivalent sailing from Sydney may pose challenges due to the additional costs associated with necessary travel arrangements like flights and land transfers.
