Scylla Welcomes Its Latest Addition: The Hybrid River Cruise Ship Lumière
Swiss transport operator Scylla has recently welcomed a new hybrid river cruise ship, named Lumière, constructed by Vahali Shipyards in Serbia. Developed in partnership with the luxury travel company Tauck, the 135-meter vessel is designed for voyages along France’s Rhône River.
Lumière features accommodations for up to 130 guests across 68 cabins and suites, including spacious options ranging from 17 to 28 square meters. The ship boasts two passenger decks equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows and French balconies, providing stunning views of the river scenery.
A dedicated crew of around 50 ensures a high guest-to-crew ratio, enhancing the onboard experience. Public amenities include two restaurants, a sun deck with a pool and bar, as well as wellness facilities like a gym, yoga studio, and massage room. Energy efficiency is a priority, with LED lighting installed throughout the vessel.
To improve visibility in the narrow river channels, the navigation bridge is positioned at the vessel’s forefront. Its hybrid propulsion system combines two diesel engines and battery packs, allowing for limited electric operation to assist maneuvering when necessary.
Lumière is equipped with advanced navigation technology, including Furuno radar systems, and has also been trialed for autonomous navigation, successfully completing a demonstration voyage in the Netherlands.
With her official delivery completed, Lumière will operate under Tauck’s river cruise program, marking an exciting addition to Scylla’s charter fleet.
