Engine Installation Kicks Off Construction Advancements at Carnival Festivale in Meyer Werft

Construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany is moving forward on the new cruise vessel, Carnival Festivale, with the recent installation of its main engines. Scheduled for delivery in 2027, this cruise ship is part of Carnival Cruise Line’s (CCL) latest generation of large passenger ships.

Several key milestones have already been achieved. The keel was laid in Papenburg in August 2025, following traditional maritime practices with commemorative coins placed beneath the keel block. Additionally, LNG storage tanks have been installed, marking a significant step in the vessel’s gas-powered propulsion system.

The hull’s structure continues to develop in the shipyard, with the forward section including the bridge area now largely assembled, while construction on the midship and aft blocks advances. Once the steel construction is finished, the process will shift towards outfitting the ship with prefabricated passenger cabins and the development of public spaces, technical systems, and other interiors.

The Carnival Festivale will measure approximately 344 meters in length and have a gross tonnage of around 180,000, accommodating over 6,400 passengers. Unlike prior projects where large prefabricated sections were produced at partner yards, the entire hull is being constructed at the Meyer Werft, allowing for a more centralized build process.

Upon completion, the ship is set to embark on a transatlantic voyage from Southampton to Port Canaveral, Florida, in May 2027, after which it will continue to operate in the Caribbean. The Carnival Festivale aims to introduce new onboard concepts, including venues focused on music and expanded family areas, representing the ongoing evolution of Carnival’s Excel-class design and the expansion of its LNG-powered fleet.
