S.S. Emilie: Uniworld’s Latest Riverboat Christened in Amsterdam
Uniworld Boutique River Cruises has officially added a new vessel to its fleet, the S.S. Emilie, with a christening ceremony held in Amsterdam. This event marks the introduction of the latest addition to Uniworld’s “Super Ship” series.
The ceremony adhered to maritime traditions, featuring the breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship’s bow—a gesture meant to bring fortune and safe travels to the vessel and its passengers. Ellen Bettridge, the President and CEO of Uniworld, presided over the ceremony. The vessel’s godmother, Julie Higgins, who has been with the company for over 20 years, participated in the event that blesses and names the new ship.
Following the christening, the S.S. Emilie embarked on its inaugural voyage from Amsterdam to Antwerp, offering an 8-day itinerary called “Tulips and Windmills.” This voyage includes various shore excursions and onboard services that reflect the Uniworld experience.
The design of the S.S. Emilie draws inspiration from the Viennese painter Gustav Klimt, leading to its naming after Emilie Flöge, Klimt’s partner and muse. The interior features vivid colors, Art Nouveau influences, and gold accents, with a prominent portrait of Flöge displayed in the central atrium.
The ship accommodates around 154 guests, offering a range of staterooms and suites equipped with upscale amenities. Certain Grand Suites can be connected to adjacent Deluxe French Balcony staterooms for larger groups or families. In-room facilities include high-quality bedding, customizable pillow menus, climate control, Wi-Fi-connected TVs, and marble bathrooms stocked with Asprey bath products.
The S.S. Emilie, launched in 2026, will navigate the European waterways, including the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers, as Uniworld continues to expand its fleet and innovate in river cruising.
