Surge in Passenger and Cargo Traffic at Las Palmas Ports: A Growth Report
The port system managed by the Port Authority of Las Palmas has reported significant growth in both passenger and cargo traffic for the early months of 2026. From January to February, a total of 888,378 passengers transited through the ports, marking an increase of 102,614 passengers compared to the same period in 2025, which is a year-on-year growth rate of 13.06%. Of these passengers, 710,072 were cruise travelers, reflecting an 18.31% increase from the previous year.
The figures for February further confirmed a robust start to 2026, particularly in terms of passenger and cruise operations, which were performing strongly. The overall traffic and cargo volumes showed resilience in the port system, proving essential for economic activity and connectivity for the Canary Islands.
In total, the port authority handled 5,655,540 tonnes of traffic in the first two months, an increase of 4.67% from 2025. Cargo accounted for the largest share at 5,152,884 tonnes, showing growth of 4.25%. The Port of Las Palmas maintained the highest volume of activity, processing 4,902,414 tonnes, up by 5.36% from the previous year. Passenger traffic at this port reached 503,623 travelers, a rise of 16.22%.
Cruise tourism, in particular, was highlighted as the fastest-growing segment within passenger traffic, showing an impressive increase of 28.37%. This trend not only solidifies the position of the Port of Las Palmas as a key gateway for maritime tourism in the province but also enhances its significance in Atlantic cruise itineraries.
