Six Cruise Ships Navigate the Arabian Gulf Amidst Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Six cruise ships are currently docked in various ports across the Arabian Gulf due to disruptions in maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. This suspension, which began in late February, has been attributed to rising security concerns amidst heightened geopolitical tensions.

The impacted vessels belong to several international cruise lines and are primarily located in key ports such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. Port authorities have been actively providing logistical support and resources as the cruise lines adjust their deployment strategies and await safer conditions for transit through the crucial strait.

The situation escalated amid ongoing conflicts involving Iran, which significantly curtailed commercial shipping traffic. Consequently, many cruise lines decided to halt operations scheduled in and out of the region. Among the affected ships is the MSC Euribia, which has been docked in Dubai since February 27, initially intended for repositioning to Northern Europe for summer cruises.

Other vessels affected include two from Celestyal Cruises, namely Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery. After disembarking passengers, Celestyal Journey is currently in Doha, while Celestyal Discovery remains in Dubai, both expected to reposition to Greece for the Eastern Mediterranean season when conditions allow.

TUI Cruises is similarly impacted, with Mein Schiff 4 docked in Abu Dhabi after the cancellation of part of its route from Dubai to Cape Town. Meanwhile, Mein Schiff 5 is located in Doha, having also canceled its scheduled Gulf season.

The last ship, Aroya, operated by Aroya Cruises, remains in Dubai after completing its winter operations and is expected to begin sailings from Jeddah in May.

In light of these disruptions, cruise lines have prioritized the repatriation of passengers, and all guests have successfully disembarked. Crew members remain onboard to support necessary operations while companies await clearer navigation options through the Strait of Hormuz.
