Unveiling the S.S. Emilie: Uniworld’s Latest Riverboat Christened in Amsterdam

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises has recently celebrated the christening of its latest river cruise ship, the S.S. Emilie, in the heart of Amsterdam. This event marks the ship’s official entry into service as part of the expanding "Super Ship" series.

The traditional ceremony featured the breaking of a Champagne bottle against the ship’s bow, a time-honored maritime ritual symbolizing good luck and safe journeys for the vessel and its passengers. Uniworld’s President and CEO, Ellen Bettridge, conducted the event alongside the ship’s godmother, Julie Higgins, who has a long-standing connection with the company, having started her career with them over twenty years ago as a cabin stewardess. Throughout her tenure, she has progressed into various operational roles, ultimately becoming the director of hotel operations and the global sustainability officer.

After the christening, the S.S. Emilie set off on its inaugural voyage from Amsterdam to Antwerp, kicking off an 8-day "Tulips and Windmills" itinerary that includes a variety of shore excursions and onboard amenities characteristic of the Uniworld experience.

The design of the S.S. Emilie pays homage to the artistic style of famed Vienna painter Gustav Klimt and is named after his life partner and muse, Emilie Flöge. The ship’s interiors reflect Klimt’s signature look with vibrant color schemes, Art Nouveau elements, and luxurious gold details, highlighted by a large portrait of Flöge at the center of the ship’s atrium.

Guests onboard can enjoy a selection of river-view staterooms and suites, all equipped with modern conveniences. Some Grand Suites can connect with adjacent Deluxe French Balcony staterooms for families or larger groups. Amenities include high-quality bedding, pillow menus, climate control, Wi-Fi-enabled televisions, and marble bathrooms featuring Asprey bath products.

Built in 2026, the vessel has a capacity of approximately 154 guests and will navigate major European rivers such as the Rhine, Main, and Danube, further enhancing Uniworld’s fleet as they continue to innovate within the river cruising sector.
