AmaWaterways has announced the upcoming launch of its second double-width river cruise ship, AmaRudi, set to sail the Danube starting in spring 2027. Following the success of AmaMagna, which debuted in 2019, AmaRudi aims to meet the growing demand for spacious river cruising, accommodating 196 guests across 98 staterooms and suites.
The ship is named after Rudi Schreiner, AmaWaterways’ co-founder and chairman, marking a significant moment as it is the first vessel in their fleet named after a man. Schreiner expressed that this naming signifies a personal achievement and underscores the increasing preference for larger, more comfortable options among travelers transitioning from ocean to river cruises.
Designed to reflect the contemporary style and rich cultures along the Danube, AmaRudi introduces various new facilities to enhance the guest experience, including diverse dining options. Highlights will be the Journey’s Restaurant, The Chef’s Table featuring Italian-inspired lunches, outdoor dining spaces, and a new Rudi’s Wine Bar, along with a robust beverage program offering over 30 wines.
Additionally, AmaRudi will provide comprehensive wellness facilities, including treatment rooms, a fitness center, and relaxation areas. Guests can enjoy guided wellness activities led by Wellness Hosts on board and during shore excursions. The Sun Deck will also be equipped with a pickleball court, adding to the recreational opportunities.
A newly created entertainment venue will incorporate features like a cinema, karaoke, billiards, and a jukebox, designed with soundproofing for comfort and enjoyment throughout the ship.
Sustainability is a key focus in AmaRudi’s design; the ship will operate with advanced Stage V engines and includes solar panels and shore-power connectivity to decrease its environmental footprint.
AmaWaterways’ CEO Catherine Powell emphasized that the new ship demonstrates the company’s commitment to river cruising’s growth and innovation. The notable popularity of AmaMagna has encouraged further development of the double-width concept, while maintaining the intimate service that has characterized AmaWaterways for over 20 years.
