A crew member tragically lost his life after going overboard from the Regal Princess cruise ship while navigating off Mexico’s Caribbean coast. The ship, which had departed from Port Everglades, faced a harrowing situation on its way to Cozumel when an announcement was made regarding the missing crew member.
Passengers onboard reported that the ship immediately commenced search efforts, which involved other nearby vessels and Mexican maritime authorities. Despite an extensive eight-hour search, the cruise line confirmed the crew member’s death later that day.
Passengers were not furnished with any information regarding the crew member’s identity. David Jimenez, a passenger who witnessed the chaotic situation, described the ship’s search operations, noting how it retraced its route in an attempt to locate the missing crew member.
Due to the circumstances, the Regal Princess canceled its scheduled stop in Cozumel. Throughout the ordeal, Princess Cruises assured passengers that they would remain informed and also offered counseling services onboard. The cruise line expressed its condolences, stating, "Our thoughts are with the crew member, their family, and all those impacted by this situation."
The Regal Princess had been on a seven-day Western Caribbean itinerary, with planned stops in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. This tragic incident is reportedly rare, leaving passengers in shock as they contend with the emotional fallout from the day’s events.
