The Legend of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, is set to make its debut at the Port of Ponce in 2027. It will anchor in the city on two specific dates: March 31 and April 14, as part of its inaugural journey.
Governor Jenniffer González Colón and Willianette Robles Cancel, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), announced this exciting development in a press release. The ship, part of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, boasts an impressive capacity of up to 7,000 passengers, alongside a crew of about 2,350.
On both scheduled arrival days, the cruise ship is expected to dock at 10:00 a.m. and will leave at 6:00 p.m., allowing visitors around eight hours to explore Ponce’s rich historical, cultural, culinary, and natural attractions.
The anticipated port calls will reportedly create an estimated economic impact of $1 million, benefiting local businesses, dining establishments, tour operators, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
González Colón emphasized that the arrival of the largest cruise ship globally signifies a powerful vote of confidence in Puerto Rico’s tourism potential, particularly in the southern region.
Robles Cancel highlighted that these visits align with the PRTC’s initiative to expand operations of major cruise lines on the island, enhancing tourism benefits across Puerto Rico.
The Legend of the Seas is officially set to enter service in 2026.
