Port Canaveral Unveils its Reimagined Terminal and Parking Garage: A New Era of Travel Begins

Port Canaveral has announced significant enhancements with plans to expand Cruise Terminal 5 and construct a new 13-story parking garage. The terminal expansion will increase its size to 170,000 square feet, while the new garage will add 3,700 parking spaces, bringing the port’s total capacity to nearly 17,500 spaces.

Captain John Murray, CEO of Port Canaveral, emphasized that these improvements are essential for maintaining the high standards of guest experience and operational efficiency expected by their cruise partners. The upgrades are part of a strategic investment totaling nearly $175 million made by the Canaveral Port Authority, aimed at meeting the surging demand for cruising from Central Florida.

Contracted to lead the construction, Ivey’s Construction from Merritt Island, Florida, is excited to work on these projects. The terminal renovations will include modern entrances, updated interiors, enlarged luggage areas, and enhanced passenger security screening zones, all designed by Miami-based BEA architects. The overall renovation project is budgeted at $78 million with a completion target set for December 2026.

The new parking garage is the largest of its kind in port history, costing $93 million, and designed to feature eight oversized elevators to accommodate passengers and their luggage, in addition to twin two-lane vehicle ramps connected by a pedestrian bridge to the entrance of Cruise Terminal 5.

These initiatives are part of the broader Port Canaveral Advantage program, a nearly $1 billion capital improvement scheme aimed at enhancing infrastructure and bolstering operational efficiency over the next five years.
