Disney Cruise Line has entered into a significant 15-year agreement with Huna Totem Corporation, ensuring its preferred access at Icy Strait Point, an Indigenous-owned destination in Alaska. This agreement guarantees Disney’s weekly docking rights for one vessel, solidifying the company’s commitment to bringing guests to this picturesque locale until at least 2041.
Jose Fernandez, Disney Cruise Line’s vice president of port strategy, expressed the importance of Icy Strait Point, noting that it has been a cherished part of their Alaska itineraries for nearly a decade. "Guests have the chance to immerse themselves in the stunning natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Hoonah area," he stated.
In 2026, Disney expanded its Alaska operations to include two ships, with itineraries on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder that feature stops at Icy Strait Point. The destination, located on Hoonah’s shores, is managed by Huna Totem Corporation, which represents over 1,850 shareholders with deep roots in the region.
Huna Totem Corporation has regarded Disney Cruise Line as a pivotal contributor to the Icy Strait Point narrative, with Howard Sherman, president of the Huna Totem Tourism Group, emphasizing the economic benefits and job creation the partnership fosters for the local community. Since its opening in 2004, Icy Strait Point has hosted over four million cruise visitors, making it a vital local employer.
