A 45-year-old man from Florida, Steve Lee Lawson, has been charged with federal offenses after child sexual abuse material was found on his mobile phone during a secondary inspection at PortMiami. This incident occurred following a cruise aboard the Norwegian Getaway to the Bahamas on July 24, 2026.
The investigation began when U.S. Customs and Border Protection flagged Lawson for further inspection upon his return to the United States. During the inspection, officers discovered 14 videos containing explicit material involving minors on Lawson’s phone, stored via the Telegram messaging application. One of these videos was reportedly over an hour long and featured a compilation of more than 100 minors in sexually explicit situations.
Court documents reveal that the material was allegedly acquired while the Norwegian Getaway was docked in the Bahamas on July 23, with Lawson admitting to purchasing the videos from a person he did not identify, using cryptocurrency for the transaction.
Facing grave charges of possessing and transporting material depicting the sexual exploitation of minors, Lawson is currently being held in a federal detention facility in Miami as legal proceedings continue. His attorneys have acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and stated they intend to navigate through the judicial process in pursuit of a fair resolution.
