Holland America Line (HAL) has just launched bookings for its 2028 Europe cruise program, which promises a diverse selection of voyages throughout Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, and the Atlantic Ocean. With over 150 years of experience in European cruising, HAL is offering the highest number of port calls in nearly a decade; this includes record visits to destinations such as Norway, Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
The new itineraries will allow guests to immerse themselves in more than 200 UNESCO-listed sites, exploring stunning fjords and enjoying local cuisine and customs through various shore excursions. The program is designed to highlight Europe’s seasonal variances, with special focus during the Dutch tulip season in spring, Mediterranean and Canary Island experiences in winter, and summer sailings that benefit from extended daylight hours in Northern Europe.
Running from January to early December, the season includes cruises ranging from seven to 48 days. Five HAL ships—Rotterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Volendam, and Zuiderdam—will operate in the region, many featuring overnight stays, extended port calls, and late departures to enhance guests’ shore time.
The Mediterranean is central to the program, with seven to 11-day voyages embarking from six different homeports and making stops in Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and Turkiye. Notably, the Nieuw Amsterdam will return to Europe for the first time in over a decade, bringing signature dining options such as the Morimoto by Sea specialty restaurant.
Some itineraries are designed for back-to-back cruise combinations with minimal port repetition, including a remarkable 48-day Legendary Mediterranean Voyage round-trip from North America. The program will also see HAL’s highest number of calls to Spain since 2017, and a record six visits to Portofino, Italy.
Northern European routes span 7 to 28 days and explore Norway, Iceland, Greenland, the British Isles, and the Baltic. This deployment marks HAL’s largest presence in Norway since 2014, along with unprecedented calls in Ireland and the Netherlands.
Additionally, the cruise program includes voyages to the Canary Islands and transatlantic sailings connecting Europe with North America—highlighting ports like Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote, along with stops in Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. Longer transatlantic adventures and Legendary Voyages will touch on various Mediterranean, Northern European, and Atlantic island destinations.
Guests who book early can take advantage of HAL’s "Have It All" package, which includes shore excursions, specialty dining, a Signature Beverage Package, and Surf Wi-Fi. Early booking becomes even more appealing with a bonus that features prepaid crew appreciation and upgrades to the Elite Beverage Package and Premium Wi-Fi.
