Transcend Cruises has launched the Connect, a river cruise ship designed exclusively for charter and group markets. The ship was officially named in a ceremony held in Dordrecht, Netherlands, before embarking on its inaugural voyage to Zaandam on August 3, 2026.
CEO Gregg Marston emphasized that the Connect aims to redefine river cruising for groups by providing a flexible, premium, and sustainable platform tailored for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exclusive events. The ship’s design focuses on the needs of event organizers, ensuring that the onboard experience is unmatched by land venues.
During the naming ceremony, the ship’s godmother was Marja van Bijsterveldt, a former Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science.
The Connect boasts five event spaces that cater to various functions, ranging from large conferences to smaller workshops. It is equipped with advanced audiovisual technology, high-speed internet, and digital branding options that allow companies to promote their brands throughout the journey.
Built at the Den Breejen Shipyard, the ship features interiors designed by Tillberg Design of Sweden, with operational management provided by United Waterways. The Connect incorporates a circular design philosophy and includes state-of-the-art low-emission technology, such as electric maneuvering systems and optimized storage solutions.
Onboard amenities include a versatile culinary experience, offering fine dining, family-style meals, or local culinary concepts. Additionally, a wellness and fitness area is available for guests.
By 2028, Transcend Cruises plans to expand its fleet to four vessels, ultimately aiming for a total of 12 river cruise ships tailored to the charter market. The company has also been reinforcing its presence in Europe by appointing Mauro Tramacere as CFO for Europe and Johannes Jungwirth as Director of Sales for Europe.
