CCL-Carnival Cruise Line is set to enhance its Carnival Journeys itineraries by hosting special cruises in 2027 to coincide with significant astronomical events, specifically solar eclipses. Following the success of the Carnival Legend’s 11-day voyage from Dover in August 2026, where passengers had the opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse at sea, Carnival is looking to replicate and expand this experience.
On board, passengers were gifted certified solar-viewing glasses and engaged in specific programming centered around the celestial event. The ship was strategically placed within the eclipse’s totality path, providing a unique experience of the Moon obscuring the Sun.
Scheduled for 2027 are three special eclipse cruises. The inaugural voyage will take place aboard the Carnival Firenze, departing from Buenos Aires on February 2nd for a 16-day journey to Miami. This cruise includes stops in Rio de Janeiro and Maceió, and it will be positioned at sea to observe the annular solar eclipse on February 6th.
The second voyage will be on the Carnival Sunshine, which will leave Barcelona on July 25th for a 10-day Mediterranean cruise, aligned with the total solar eclipse on August 2nd. Destinations include Marseille and Genoa, with special onboard activities planned for eclipse viewing.
The last cruise of the series will be held on the Carnival Miracle, leaving Dover on July 29th for another 11-day journey, with a similar focus on eclipse observation on August 2nd. This total solar eclipse will travel across southern Spain, North Africa, and parts of the Middle East, promising an unforgettable experience for those on board.
