A new direct flight connection between Genoa and Frankfurt is set to launch on March 28, 2027. This initiative aims to enhance travel between Liguria and one of Europe’s major aviation centers.
The flights will be operated by Discover Airlines using an Airbus A320 with a capacity of 180 seats, scheduled to run bi-weekly throughout the summer of 2027. Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, connects to various European destinations from its Frankfurt and Munich hubs.
In collaboration with Discover Airlines, Genoa Airport and Costa Cruises developed this route to boost international visitors to Genoa and Liguria, improving access to major European cities and catering to German cruise market demands.
This connection supports Costa’s fly-cruise program, allowing passengers to link their Frankfurt-Genoa flights with cruises on Costa Toscana departing from Savona, and Costa Fascinosa from Genoa, providing a seamless travel solution for German tourists visiting the Western Mediterranean.
Genoa Airport Chairman Matteo Paroli emphasized the significance of this connection for enhancing the region’s accessibility, benefiting both tourism and business. Costa’s CEO Mario Zanetti highlighted this service as a new gateway for international cruise guests and a strong contributor to regional economic growth, impacting various sectors from hospitality to retail.
Marco Götz, CCO of Discover Airlines, noted that the new route complements their leisure network, enhancing options for travelers heading to Genoa, a key Mediterranean cruise hub. The project showcases the critical connection between air and cruise traffic, as stated by Genoa Airport General Manager Francesco D’Amico, and aims to strengthen ties with the Lufthansa Group.
Overall, Costa’s initiative reflects a strategic commitment to developing cruise traffic from Germany to Liguria, with Vice President Daniel Caprile expressing optimism about the operational flexibility the new flights will provide to cruise passengers. Discover Airlines continues to promote its key German hubs of Frankfurt and Munich, streamlining bookings through various channels.
