Operation Tidal Wave: 11 Cruise Ship Workers Arrested in Boston for Alleged Child Sex Abuse Materials

Federal agents have apprehended 11 foreign cruise ship workers in Boston as part of "Operation Tidal Wave," a crackdown on individuals suspected of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material. The operation took place from August 14 to 16 and involved boarding two cruise ships, the Volendam operated by Holland America Line and the Norwegian Breakaway.

Nine of the arrested individuals are from the Philippines, one is from Indonesia, and another is from Nicaragua. Following thorough searches of their living quarters and electronic devices, they were processed for removal based on immigration laws related to crimes of moral turpitude.

This operation is part of a larger initiative, with previous actions in San Diego and Puerto Rico leading to the arrest of 41 crew members from nine different ships. U.S. Customs and Border Protection emphasized that protecting children from exploitation is a top priority, highlighting the essential role of their officers in maintaining public safety.

Both cruise lines involved have expressed their cooperation with law enforcement. Holland America stated that the individuals involved were immediately terminated, while Norwegian reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its guests aboard its fleet.
