Oceania Cruises has recently celebrated a significant milestone with the float-out of its newest vessel, Oceania Sonata, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy. This event marks an important phase in the construction of the ship, which is set to make its debut in August 2027.
Weighing in at 86,000 tons and designed to accommodate 1,390 guests, Oceania Sonata is nearly 30 percent larger than its predecessor, Oceania Allura. Despite the increase in size, it will feature only 90 additional cabins to ensure more spacious amenities for guests, including 13 dining venues and various bars and lounges.
Among the notable dining options onboard will be La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France— a unique restaurant recognized by the esteemed culinary association Maîtres Cuisiniers de France— as well as a new fusion venue called Nikkei Kitchen, weaving together Peruvian and Japanese culinary traditions.
The ship’s accommodations are designed to provide a luxurious experience, with one-third of the 695 cabins being suites. This includes four expansive Owner’s Suites measuring 2,500 square feet, alongside eight Vista Suites located at the rear of the ship, each ranging from 1,500 to 1,900 square feet.
Having completed its exterior construction, Oceania Sonata will now transition from dry dock to the fitting-out berth, where work on its interiors will continue. The vessel’s inaugural season will comprise 22 sailings from August 2027 through April 2028, starting in the Mediterranean over the summer months and transitioning to the Caribbean in winter, with fares beginning at £2,549 per person.
This launch is just the beginning for Oceania, as Oceania Sonata is the first of five planned Sonata class ships, with Oceania Arietta scheduled to follow in 2029. Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, expressed excitement over this development, highlighting gratitude for the craftsmanship at Fincantieri and the significance of this project in defining a new chapter for the brand.
