Terra Nova’s Strategic Ship Swaps: Aiming for Success in the Antarctica Season

Terra Nova Expeditions has announced a significant change in its 2026-27 Antarctic operations. The company will be employing the Terra Nova Adventurer, an expedition vessel formerly known as MS Expedition and G Expedition, after the St. Helena could not be positioned in the region on time due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

The St. Helena, originally prepared for this role, is unable to complete the necessary repositioning from the Persian Gulf safely. Following an extensive search, Terra Nova Expeditions successfully secured the Terra Nova Adventurer, which will be with the company for at least three Antarctic seasons starting from 2026-27.

Greg Carter, the founder and CEO of Terra Nova Expeditions, emphasized the opportunity to leverage this unexpected challenge as a chance for growth. He highlighted the Adventurer’s extensive polar experience and its established reputation among expedition travelers as key advantages.

The Terra Nova Adventurer has a storied history, initially entering service in 1972, and underwent a significant rebuild in 2008 to serve as an expedition vessel. It has since navigated various remote regions, including Antarctica and the Arctic, for over a decade under G Adventures.

Before its first operational season with Terra Nova Expeditions, several upgrades will be made to the ship. Enhancements include new soft furnishings and decor, remodeling of lounge and bar areas, and the addition of new amenities such as a Jacuzzi and sauna on Deck 5.

Despite the change in vessel, Terra Nova Expeditions assures that the essence of their offerings—Antarctica itself, the expedition experience, and their dedicated team—will remain unchanged. The company is reaching out directly to guests affected by this change to ensure smooth transitions in their bookings.

Terra Nova Expeditions was founded by Greg Carter, who co-founded Chimu Adventures and has previously held a senior position at Albatros Expeditions. The startup had announced its initial charter of the St. Helena in 2025, marking its entry into small-ship Antarctic cruising.
