
A tragic fire occurred aboard the ferry MV June Aster off the coast of Palawan Island in the Philippines, resulting in the deaths of five people and leaving over 80 others missing. The vessel was carrying 117 passengers and 17 crew members at the time of the incident, which struck approximately 1.2 nautical miles northeast of Coron, as reported by the Philippine Coast Guard.
Rescue efforts have managed to save 42 individuals, while the confirmed death toll stands at five. The number of missing persons is determined by subtracting those rescued and the deceased from the total onboard. The Coast Guard is currently conducting ongoing search and rescue operations in the vicinity to locate those unaccounted for.
