Celebrating Five Years of Service: American Melody’s Journey with ACL

The American Melody riverboat is celebrating its five-year milestone with American Cruise Lines (ACL) this month. This 175-passenger vessel, constructed at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland, embarked on its maiden voyage on September 3, 2021.

As the fourth ship in ACL’s series of modern riverboats, the Melody commenced its inaugural season navigating the Mississippi River. The ship’s first journey featured the 22-day “Complete Mississippi Cruise,” which runs between New Orleans and St. Paul. However, due to Hurricane Ida impacting the Gulf Coast, passengers boarded the Melody in Natchez instead.

After its initial cruising season, the 5,148-ton vessel offered a series of eight-night “Upper Mississippi River” cruises linking St. Louis and St. Paul before returning to the Lower Mississippi in December 2021.

Currently, the Melody continues to serve the Mississippi region in 2026. Looking ahead to 2027, it is scheduled to introduce the “Grand Ohio River” cruise, which features two sailings in July. This 15-night itinerary will traverse between Pittsburgh and St. Louis, stopping at various key destinations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Missouri.

Starting in 2028, the Melody will also launch new itineraries on the Arkansas River, including an eight-day route between Little Rock and Tulsa, covering attractions in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The American Melody is notable for its interior design, a significant advancement for ACL. Miami-based Studio DADO created elegant public areas and private accommodations, including a stunning multi-story glass atrium. According to President and CEO Charles B. Robertson, the design aligns with ACL’s goal of delivering sophisticated experiences aboard modern vessels.
