Great Stirrup Cay Pier Celebrates Its First Double Call: A Milestone in Cruise Tourism

The Great Stirrup Cay pier, a recent addition to Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas, achieved a significant milestone this past weekend by hosting its first double call. This event marks a historic first for the company, as two ships docked at the newly constructed pier simultaneously.

The Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Getaway were the first vessels to take advantage of this new facility. The Getaway, departing from PortMiami, was on a three-night cruise that included a stop in Nassau, while the Prima joined in as part of a seven-night itinerary beginning from Port Canaveral.

The new pier opened in August 2026 as part of an extensive upgrade project for Great Stirrup Cay. This enhancement also included the launch of the Great Tides Waterpark, which features 19 waterslides and an 800-foot-long dynamic river. Other amenities introduced to the island are Horizon Park with games and pickleball courts, along with Hammock Bay that provides over 50 hammocks.

Looking forward, Great Stirrup Cay is expected to welcome multiple double calls throughout the remainder of 2026. A notable day is set for December 21, 2026, when both the Norwegian Epic and Norwegian Getaway will dock, together bringing nearly 8,500 passengers to the island.
