Astro Ocean Cruises has announced a new partnership with Global Cruiseline Ltd (GLCL), which will operate the vessel formerly known as the Piano Land under the name Buenavista in Brazil. This collaboration marks an important step in Astro Ocean’s international expansion strategy.
The agreement is defined as an “overseas strategic cooperation agreement” and signifies Astro Ocean’s commitment to broaden its global operating presence in the cruise market. According to the company, the Buenavista is expected to set sail for South America shortly, with its first cruise scheduled for October 26, 2026.
Having its roots in the Asian cruise market, Astro Ocean aims to optimize its network and increase capacity by establishing partnerships in both domestic and international markets. Corazul Cruceros, the brand launched by GLCL in Spain earlier this year, pivoted to the Brazilian market after its initial Mediterranean plans were canceled.
The Buenavista will offer a range of three- to seven-night cruises departing from Santos and Rio de Janeiro, visiting popular destinations such as Salvador, Búzios, Balneário Camboriú, and Cabo Frio. R11 Travel, which partners with Royal Caribbean in the region, opened bookings for the cruise’s maiden season earlier this year.
As of now, Corazul’s operations in Europe and the Mediterranean for the 2027 season are being considered, although no formal announcements have been made. COO Cammile Appeldoorn stated that the Buenavista will operate under a bareboat charter agreement, with BSM managing the 1,806-passenger vessel, which originally launched as Oriana for P&O Cruises in 1995.
This collaboration not only emphasizes the expanding reach of Chinese cruise lines but also reflects a growing emphasis on diversifying cruise offerings in South America.
