This donation includes contributions from Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, and Princess Cruises, aimed to support immediate relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Nolo and the repercussions of Hurricanes Lala and Lowell.
Carnival’s cruise lines are significant players in the Hawaiian market, making over 200 calls annually to five popular destinations: Nawiliwili, Kahului, Honolulu, Hilo, and Kailua Kona. Together, these brands welcome approximately 528,000 cruise guests to Hawaii each year, bolstering the state’s tourism sector.
Direct Relief is collaborating with local healthcare providers and nonprofit organizations to evaluate ongoing recovery needs. They have set up emergency medical aid stockpiles in Hawaii, which include triage supplies, medications, and personal care items for displaced individuals. The organization reports that assistance exceeding $800,000 has already been provided to various health centers and nonprofits across the islands, including the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaii.
Hawaii has faced multiple severe weather events this year, the latest being the Kona Low system that impacted the islands earlier in March, followed by Hurricanes Lala and Lowell.
