Holland America Line Expands Fleet with 12th Cruise Ship: A Familiar Face Joins the Ranks

Holland America Line is set to expand its fleet to 12 ships, a move resulting from a strategic ship swap within Carnival Corp. slated to begin in 2029. The transition involves the P&O Cruises ship, Arcadia, joining Holland America, while Queen Anne will be transferred from Cunard to P&O Cruises.

Arcadia, sailing since 2005, will boost Holland America’s capacity by over 2,000 guests and provide more flexible deployment options globally. The announcement, made on October 6, indicates that the changes are designed to reflect guest demand and long-term vision for both cruise lines.

Queen Anne, which entered service in 2024, will undergo extensive modifications after completing her World Voyage in early 2029, aligning her with the P&O fleet’s offerings. Carnival UK President Paul Ludlow reassured stakeholders that this change will not affect the commitment to Cunard and its unique guest experiences.

This strategic move allows Holland America to enhance its offerings while modernizing its fleet. President Beth Bodensteiner noted the strong demand for immersive travel experiences and how the additional capacity would cater to travelers’ preferences.

For loyal customers, Arcadia’s transfer will bring familiarity as she is a Vista-class ship like others already in the Holland America fleet. Following her integration, Arcadia will undergo the Holland America Evolution process, a significant upgrade that aims to refresh onboard spaces and enhance the overall guest experience with new venues and improved staterooms.

Cruisers eager to experience these enhancements can start booking voyages on the revitalized Holland America ships, including extensive upgrades to Oosterdam and Zuiderdam in the coming years. Arcadia will conclude her tenure with P&O Cruises in August 2029 before transitioning to Holland America.

This strategic expansion by Holland America underscores a commitment to modernizing and growing its fleet to meet changing traveler demands.
