National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions Launches Enhanced Fleet and New Vision for Exploration

Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic have rebranded their long-standing partnership, now known as National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions. This marks a significant milestone in their over 20-year collaboration, enhancing their focus on scientific exploration, nature-based travel, and purpose-driven cruising.

Kathi Riddle, Vice President of Sales and Revenue Management for Lindblad Expeditions, highlighted their shared goal of connecting travelers with transformative experiences while defining modern expedition cruising through this new alliance.

The rebranding signifies an expanded agreement, granting Lindblad global rights to the National Geographic brand for expedition cruising until at least 2040. This change enables Lindblad to leverage the globally recognized National Geographic name fully. Additionally, the partnership extends to marketing through The Walt Disney Company, which owns National Geographic, providing access to Disney’s distribution channels and robust promotional efforts.

Lindblad Expeditions operates over 100 itineraries across 70 countries on all seven continents with a fleet of 20 purpose-built expedition ships. These vessels, ranging in capacity from 16 to 148 guests, are designed for personalized and immersive experiences, allowing close access to remote destinations. In early 2025, the fleet will expand with the introduction of two new ships: National Geographic Delfina, a luxury catamaran for 16 guests, and National Geographic Gemini, accommodating 48 guests. Both will be revitalized before launching in the Galapagos Islands.

The company continues to innovate within the industry. For instance, it plans to charter Delfina, a sister vessel to Delfin II, doubling its offerings along the Amazon River by 2026, where it has provided year-round expeditions since 2010.

Lindblad’s Expedition 360 program emphasizes its commitment to collaboration with travel advisors, offering comprehensive training and advanced technological tools to help them better understand the National Geographic-Lindblad cruising experience.

This rebranding also pays tribute to Lindblad’s rich history in expedition cruising—pioneered by Lars-Eric Lindblad, who led the first non-scientific trips to Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands in the late 1960s. His son, Sven-Olof Lindblad, has continued this legacy by developing a fleet of advanced expedition vessels and promoting responsible travel. This family legacy, combined with National Geographic’s dedication to exploration and education, shapes their unique approach in the expedition cruising market.

With a focus on small-ship travel, expertly crafted itineraries, and a commitment to discovery, National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions aims to remain a leader in the realm of small-ship expedition travel.
