National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions Launches Upgraded Fleet and New Vision for Exploration

Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic have officially rebranded their partnership to become National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, marking a pivotal moment in their 20-year collaboration. This new identity aims to enhance their commitment to scientific exploration, nature-driven travel, and a purpose-oriented cruising experience.

Kathi Riddle, the Vice President of Sales and Revenue Management for Lindblad Expeditions, highlighted the partnership’s mission: to connect travelers with transformative experiences and shape modern expedition cruising.

As part of this rebranding, Lindblad has secured global rights to the National Geographic brand for expedition cruising through at least 2040. This agreement will enable the company to capitalize on the National Geographic name’s global prestige. Additionally, their marketing will be supported by The Walt Disney Company, National Geographic’s parent company, providing access to Disney’s extensive distribution channels.

Lindblad Expeditions operates a fleet of 20 expedition ships designed specifically for exploration, with itineraries spanning over 70 countries and all seven continents. The vessels cater to 16 to 148 passengers, allowing for personalized and immersive experiences in remote locations that larger ships cannot access. Upcoming expansions include the addition of the luxury catamaran National Geographic Delfina, accommodating 16 guests, and the 48-guest expedition ship National Geographic Gemini, which will be revitalized before launching in the Galapagos Islands.

Innovative collaborations are central to Lindblad’s business strategy, including plans to increase their Amazon River offerings by 2026 through the chartering of the Delfina, broadening their reach in that region.

The company is also dedicated to supporting travel advisors via the Expedition 360 program, which offers extensive training and resources to help them better communicate the unique experience of National Geographic-Lindblad cruising.

The rebranding endeavor pays homage to Lindblad’s rich legacy in expedition cruising, dating back to Lars-Eric Lindblad’s groundbreaking civilian journeys to Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands in the 1960s. His son, Sven-Olof, has since expanded these efforts, establishing a fleet known for responsible travel standards and advanced expedition capabilities, combined with National Geographic’s focus on exploration and education.

With an intimate fleet, meticulously crafted itineraries, and a commitment to discovery, National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions is poised to lead in the small-ship expedition travel arena.
