Costa Pacifica: The First Ship to Experience Santos’ Spectacular Fireworks Display

The Costa Pacifica made history as the first cruise ship to witness the New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Santos, Brazil. The ship, part of an eight-night cruise, arrived in Santos Bay just in time for the stunning 14-minute spectacle.

Before reaching Santos, the Costa Pacifica embarked guests in both Santos and Rio de Janeiro. The itinerary for this cruise also featured stops at popular destinations, including Búzios, Angra dos Reis, Ilhabela, and Balneário Camboriú.

Santos Mayor Rogério Santos emphasized the significance of this event, noting that it showcases the city as a major cruise hub. He stated, “It is an extremely important action to promote Santos not only during New Year’s Eve but throughout the season, in all seasons of the year.”

Looking ahead, the Costa Pacifica will continue to operate in South America, offering a series of cruises ranging from three to seven nights from Santos and Rio until late March. This season also includes the Costa Diadema and Costa Favolosa, which will have various itineraries departing from different ports.

Rio de Janeiro, a traditional hub for cruise ships on New Year’s Eve, welcomed six vessels for the 2025 celebrations, including two from Costa Cruises: the Costa Favolosa and Costa Deliziosa, in addition to four ships from MSC Cruises. Notable among them was the MSC Grandiosa, currently the largest ship operating in Brazil, which joined its fleetmates for a 12-minute fireworks display.

In another celebratory location, Madeira Island in Portugal hosted 11 cruise ships in Funchal for its New Year’s Eve festivities, representing nine different cruise lines. The largest ship present was Cunard’s Queen Anne, which had just entered service in April 2024.
