Norwegian Cruise Line Begins Construction of New Cruise Pier at Great Stirrup Cay

NCLH-Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has officially started the construction of a new cruise pier at Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. This $150 million project, expected to finish by late 2025, will allow for the simultaneous docking of two large vessels, enhancing guest access to the private island for Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

The new pier is part of NCLH’s strategy to improve its private island experiences while preparing for the incoming next-generation fleet, which is currently under construction at Fincantieri in Italy. Along with the pier, plans are in place to upgrade the island’s infrastructure to support future growth and operational efficiency.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, and NCLH executives such as CEO Harry Sommer and Norwegian Cruise Line President David Herrera. Local officials were also present to acknowledge the project’s significance to the region.

NCLH characterized the pier as a "transformational investment" for both the Bahamian economy and its cruise operations. Additionally, the company revealed plans to invest over $45,000 in 2025 to support educational initiatives in the Bahamas, including scholarships, internships, and enhancements to local facilities.
